Volunteer Role Descriptions

Harrow Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1880 and is one of the oldest tennis clubs in the country, even the world. Club Minutes date back to 1893.   The Club uses Harrow School’s tennis courts.  It is managed by a Committee of elected members and strives to provide a welcoming and fun tennis experience for all.  The Club acknowledges and actively promotes the welfare of children and adults at risk.  Safeguarding and other policies are available on its website (www.hltc.uk).

Committee Member Role Description

Overview of the Role

  • To organise and oversee weekend Social Tennis and the Club’s Social   Ladders
  • To assist Men’s Captain with the co-ordination of Men’s team tennis

What you will be doing

Responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Overseeing the smooth running of social play on Saturday and Sunday
  • Co-ordinating Men’s coaching sessions
  • Organising some social tournaments
  • Liaising with Men’s Captain, Club Captain and team captains about identifying players for teams
  • Running the Club Singles and Doubles ladders through the Scala app
  • Attending and contributing to committee meetings (normally between 4 and 6 pa)
  • Attending and supporting the running of the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  • Making decisions with the committee in the best interests of our members and club
  • Supporting the President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Club Captain and other key volunteers in their roles
  • Welcoming new members courtside and ensuring they are included in social play
  • Advising Men’s and Ladies Captains when new players join who are experienced players so that they can be assessed for appropriate teams
  • Supporting the Welfare Officer in promoting Safeguarding to members
  • Running the end of month American tournament once a year
  • Providing support with the set-up and running of any club events
  • Encouraging ad-hoc enquirers to visit our website regarding membership

  • Good organisation skills

  • Before starting in this role, you will receive guidance from other members of the Committee

Commitments

  • The time commitment for this role is flexible and will depend on your areas of expertise.

Further Information

  • Some committee roles require a DBS check. This is dependent on your contact with children and/or adults at risk and/or access to confidential information.
  • As Juniors take part in Team practice and social tennis it is recommended that a DBS is obtained and a Safeguarding course undertaken
