HLTC members enjoyed a great afternoon of tennis in the sunshine and wind to play the annual fixture in memory of Mike A Driver, on Sunday 31 August 2025.

The event has been an annual success since the introductory fixture in 2021. It was set up by former president and Mike’s widow, Wendy Driver, in collaboration with Vivien Mrowiec to mark the time and commitment Michael, who was very much a team player, willingly gave to the club.

Each year, we identify the last weekend of the summer holidays when we have afternoon access to the courts to play this fun team event. All HLTC club members are invited to participate in the afternoon of tennis, which this year consisted of six teams of seven players, forty-two players in total. Teams are given names and a team colour, relating to Mike’s likes in life. All teams play each other, with the pairing changing for each round. Each round consists of one handicap set of 9 games to compete for the trophy. The challenge to put together teams that will result in a competitive match is always a challenge. This year the winning team, captained by Patrick Freely, were the ‘Reds’

acknowledging Mike’s pleasure when enjoying a glass of red wine in the company of friends.

The afternoon is round off by tea and home baked cakes with the option of a beer or glass of wine while the final scores are being tallied.
