Social Tennis at Harrow Lawn Tennis Club

Social Tennis is an important part of our club and a great way to meet other members and play some good, enjoyable tennis.  Just turn up anytime during the morning – no need to book.

Saturday and Sunday mornings:  10.00 – 12.30

Partners are changed on the hour and half past the hour so that members have the opportunity to play with different people. On the last Sunday of the month there is an American Tournament instead of the social session and at the end of the year an ‘All Stars’ Tournament is held.

Saturday and Sunday arranged Doubles matches:  8.00 – 10.00

Every week our members arrange matches internally, using our dedicated WhatsApp community.

Organised Socials

Midweek mornings:  anytime from 9 am

A WhatsApp group ensures there are at least 4 members available on any day of the week.  Just ask to be added to the group.

Thursday mornings:  10.00 – 12.00 Ladies’ Social

There is a WhatsApp group to ensure there are at least 4 who can play.  Just ask to be added to the group.  

Our social sessions are more suited to intermediate-level tennis. If you are new to the game the most beneficial route for you would be to attend Elaina’s coaching or cardio or fun sessions (see ‘Coaching’), then arrange practice sessions with other members you meet in Elaina’s groups.  You can then progress to intermediate coaching.  By that stage, or soon after, you should be able to participate, and importantly, enjoy the social intermediate sessions.

Club Tennis Tournaments

HLTC Summer Tournament

Our Summer Tournament is a huge organizational task which is set up and run by Hugh Watson. Matches are played from April ending with a finals weekend in July. The competition offers the opportunity for all members to compete in gent’s or ladies’ singles, plus gent’s, ladies & mixed doubles games.

Winter Handicap

The Winter Handicap Tournament was initially set up by past member, Gorden Smith. This popular event was also intended to keep friendly competitive play running throughout the winter months with a complete mix of membership joining forces to unite and play together under a handicap scoring system.

HLTC vs Harrow School

The event has been an annual success since the inaugural fixture in 2013. The Harrow Cup was donated by the then President, Wendy Driver who joined forces with the School Master in Charge of Rackets, John Eaton. Each year the School identify a suitable date and host the match, which is a gentlemen’s invitation match. Each side invites twenty-four players to play in four teams of six in three pairs. One set is played against each pair to compete for the cup.

HLTC Scala Tournament

This is an internal competition for all members of the club to play each other in singles and doubles in a friendly and relaxed enviroment. This is organised twice a year in the winter and summer periods and trophys are awarded to the winners.

League Events

Vets League

We have many members taking part in our Mixed Vets tennis at HLTC, Vets eligibility is 40+ for both men and women in doubles. Matches are played on Sundays home and away.

Charity League

All Charity matches are played on midweek mornings in the Autumn and Spring. These matches are self-funding with team entry fees being donated to the charity of choice decided by the winning team in each division. Kenton Floodlit League

As HLTC didn’t have floodlights we originally entered this friendly league at its inception over 25 – 30 years ago. This offered HLTC members the opportunity to play matches during winter evenings. Over the years we have formed a strong bond with the Kenton club, developing and building many friendships along the way.
